Glasgow-based Holly Macleod graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Fashion Design. Gravitating towards designing her own prints, she integrates her own artwork (usually referencing mythical creatures with a humorous twist) to create her fabric. The subject matter remains subtle, creating the illusion of a pattern which is upended upon closer inspection. Macleod’s design process is led by tackling waste in the pattern cutting stage of manufacture. Where possible, she limits panelling to ensure most of the fabric is not left on the cutting room floor. Where there is waste, she keeps the cuttings to create accessories which complement her designs. With this zero waste pattern cutting, Holly Macleod sets out to create designs which empower all body shapes and gender identities - prioritising comfortable fits without restricting stitching, allowing her clothes to adapt naturally to the wearer's body.
