Born in Athens, Nia Topalova moved between Sofia, Rome, and Antwerp during the development of her practice. Now based in Rotterdam, her eclectic design process is perhaps testament to this inclination towards exploring. Interested in self-expression, sexuality and femininity, her designs showcase the human form, intricate and experimental in the way they cover the body. Topalova’s knitted designs play with asymmetry, cut outs, fraying and various other unconventional design practices. Made with distressed mohair, each delicate piece is carefully hand-crafted to create a one-of-a-kind garment.
